Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is one of the vegetables that is widely used for household needs in Indonesia. The consumption of garlic in Indonesia continues to increase every year during the period 1985-2016. While in the same period, garlic production showed a downward trend which caused the government to import. Therefore, the government through the Ministry of Agriculture launched a garlic self-sufficiency program in 2019 aimed at reducing import and increase domestic garlic production. The purpose of this research are (1) to analysis achievement of self-sufficiency in garlic in 2019, and (2) policy recommendations for garlic self-sufficiency in Indonesia. This research is conducted by using ARIMA (Auttoregressive Integrated Moving Average) with time series data during the period 1985-2016. The results showed that in 2019 Indonesia has not been able to achieve self-sufficiency in garlic because the estimated consumption is far greater than the production achieved. Policy strategies are needed to achieve self-sufficiency in garlic, namely expansion of planting areas, increased productivity, and price stabilization policies.
